On the eve of the new academic year President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin visited the Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPGU).
The Head of State toured the «One School – One Country» exhibition, which highlights the achievements of Russian education, and participated in the opening of new educational institutions via videoconference.
The Rector of Moscow Pedagogical State University Alexey Lubkov welcomed the President alongside the Deputy Minister of Education Olga Koludarova. The Rector spoke about the university’s history, the growing interest in the teaching profession as a whole and the rising demand for pedagogical specialties among applicants.
«MPGU is one of Russia’s oldest universities and will celebrate its 155th anniversary next year. We are the largest pedagogical university in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. This year, over 200,000 applications were submitted for 4,500 state-funded seats, with half of the applicants representing various regions across Russia.»
The Rector emphasized the significance of the previously enacted law on elevating the status of teachers and strengthening the character-building and educational components of the learning process. During the event Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov reported that the educational system is fully prepared for September 1 with unified federal curriculum established and rising student performance observed.
Sergey Kravtsov pointed out that the education system responds to ongoing challenges, which is why a new subject «Artificial Intelligence and Information Security» is being introduced for grades 5-11 starting this academic year. He noted that unified curriculum and standardized state textbooks foster a broad outlook in every student, emphasizing that development primarily targets mainstream schools. Furthermore a unified system of character-building and extracurricular work has been established to reach every student and shape a worldview rooted in traditional spiritual and moral values.
The head of the Ministry emphasized that on the President’s instructions assistance was provided to the Republic of Dagestan and the Chechen Republic, which were affected by flooding. All 123 schools in Dagestan requiring major repairs will be open by September 1. In addition, seven new schools will be constructed, two of which are set to open for Knowledge Day. During the ceremony a new school with 604 seats opened in the Dagestani village of Bairamaul in the Khasavyurtovsky District. This educational institution features all the necessary conditions for student learning with classrooms fully outfitted with required equipment.
President reviewed the exhibition of achievements in Russian education set up at MPGU. The exposition titled «One School – One Country» was prepared by the Foundation for Humanitarian Projects as part of the «Russia – My History» exhibition series.
Olga Koludarova stated that the education system was changing adding that their hard work in accordance with the President’s instructions had yielded positive results. She noted that they had successfully addressed the implementation of mainstream, in-depth study of mathematics and natural sciences. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister emphasized that school students’ motivation to study subjects like chemistry, biology and physics was growing, alongside a rising quality of education.
MPGU is the oldest pedagogical university in Russia, having celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022. It is a major research, educational, and cultural center. The university structure includes 17 institutes and faculties, a lyceum, and a college as well as branches in Stavropol, Anapa, Derbent, Pokrov and Chernyakhovsk.
