President Vladimir Putin visited the Moscow Pedagogical State University to meet with teachers and students on the eve of Knowledge Day. He noted that the prestige of the teaching profession is rising nationwide. This is supported by increased applicant competition and higher entrance examination scores in Pedagogical Universities.
The President specifically focused on the decree on the status of educators which was signed in July 2026. According to Vladimir Putin the document aims to provide comprehensive support for teachers. This includes raising the profile of the teaching profession, strengthening multi-directional support for educators and drawing on positive experiences from the Soviet era, particularly regarding the attainment of the «Veteran of Labor» status. It also ensures constant access to various information sources for educators and expands opportunities for continuous professional development, advanced training and retraining.
Vladimir Putin highlighted a distinct mission of the teacher — to teach children to think independently. According to the Head of State, amid the rapid development of information technology and the accessibility of the internet, which contains a massive amount of unreliable content, it is crucial to help children navigate this vast information landscape, «find what is important and separate the wheat from the chaff.»
This not only equips a child with the necessary tools for learning but also strengthens trust in the teacher and elevates their authority. This, in turn, creates a foundation for fulfilling another vital function — the character-building and educational aspect.
The meeting with the Head of state was attended by the Rector of MPGU Alexey Lubkov alongside teachers, university students, and school students. Participants discussed key educational issues with the President of the Russian Federation, focusing on strengthening mentoring, elevating the teaching profession, and implementing support measures like the «Zemsky Teacher» program.
