For the past ten years, Moscow Pedagogical State University has hosted meetings of students from Slavic countries during the Days of Slavic Writing and Culture. Maintaining close cultural ties among young people from Slavic countries is an important mission of the university.
On May 22, 2026, students from the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education at Moscow Pedagogical State University and students from the Belarusian National Technical University, representing a wide range of fields, participated in the online meeting. The MPGU participants included students from the first through fourth years – future history and social science teachers. From Minsk, students from Belarus, Russia, and other countries, including China, represented future architects, engineers, and economists.
The students prepared presentations on the symbols and signs of culture that are expressed in a shared cultural and spiritual heritage—customs and traditions, habits, and lifestyles. Master’s students of the program «Teaching and popularization of Russian language, culture, and history for foreign citizens» discussed the importance of color and nature in Slavic culture, why we love forests and dachas so much, and why certain rituals are so significant for modern residents of Eastern Europe. A meaningful parallel was provided by presentations by students of the Belarusian National Technical University: a Russian student presented on color in the works of Mikhail Lermontov, and a Belarusian-Chinese duo presented on «Slavic and Chinese mythology: Are they really so different?»
Following the theoretical part, participants enjoyed an engaging quiz, «Guess the Slavic musical instrument,» led by a MPGU student of the program «History and Educational Work». Students and teachers on opposite sides of the screen enjoyed guessing the sounds of various folk instruments.
The event was organized by the Faculty of Regional Studies and Ethnocultural Education (Dean – Elena Omelchenko, Doctor of History, Professor of the UNESCO Chair) and the UNESCO Chair on «International education and the integration of migrants» (Coordinator – Marina Krivenkaya, PhD in Linguistics, Associate Professor of the UNESCO Chair) of the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education at Moscow Pedagogical State University, with the support of the International Pedagogical Society in Support of the Russian Language (MPO Secretary – Anna Orlova, PhD in History, Associate Professor of the UNESCO Chair, and MPO Member – Anna Eroshevich, Senior Lecturer at BNTU, Republic of Belarus).
