Greece is an amazing country, since antiquity it has been the center of European education. Each city is covered with a unique beautiful etiological legend. Almighty ancient Greek Gods live on the summits of high mountains. It seems that Athens air is filled with myths and legends, known to us from childhood at Literature and History lessons. Arriving in Greece, we find ourselves in a special semantically saturated space – the Space of Myth. The dialogue between the present and the past, history and modernity fascinates everyone who has visited Greece. The History of the Ancient Greece became, due to the Third Winter International School of the English Language and Culture, a part of personal cognitive experience for all of us.
The Third Winter International School of the English Language and Culture was held on the basis of the partner of Moscow State Pedagogical University – City Unity College (CUC) in Athens. The Program Manager, Associate Professor of Contrastive Linguistics Department (Institute of Foreign Languages) Tatiana Ivanova carried out tremendous organizational work to form a group and prepare documents. The School participants listened to interactive lectures by leading CUC professors: Panagiotis Yannakopoulos, Vesselin Todorov, Dawn Stevens; took an active part in discussions on topical issues of modern linguistic education; examined the factors influencing the world political processes; got acquainted with the history of Christianity; attended practical classes on modern technologies of teaching English. On completion of the training course, each participant in the Third Winter International School of the English Language and Culture was granted a 46 academic hour International Certificate from the Greek Ministry of Education.
Moreover, a magnificent cultural program was offered by the host party. Russian students in the mode of intercultural communication, got acquainted with the local attractions: the Ancient City, the Acropolis, museums, Likavitos Hill. The voyage to the fabulous islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina on board of a ship flying the Greek flag became another unforgettable page in the cultural and educational route of Winter School.
