The interest of Greece Universities in the development of academic links with Russian Universities has increased significantly after the signing of inter-governmental agreement on scientific and technical cooperation. The agreement was signed on 11 November, 2016 in Athens (Greece) by O.V. Vasileva, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and K. Fotakis, first deputy Minister of Education on the issues of scientific researches and innovations, in the presence of K. Gavroglu, Minister of Education of Greece.
At the beginning of June the Institute of Foreign Languages delegation visited Ionian University (IURC) at the Greek island of Corfu. At the end of the meeting with George Mikhalakopulos, dean of the faculty of foreign languages and translation, both parties confirmed an interest in promoting Russian as a foreign language in the region and developing academic cooperation between universities.
On 16 June, 2017 Ioannis Karras, professor at the faculty of foreign languages and translation of IURC and lecturer of Hellenic Open University, visited MSPU. He is a famous European specialist in applied linguistics and teaching foreign languages.
Greece party expressed an interest in establishing Summer school on learning Russian as a foreign language on the base of Hellenic Open University with the assistance of MSPU lecturers and also in opening linguistic bachelor programmes in the Russian language.
Parties also discussed the possibilities of establishing Greece cultural centre on the base of MSPU and concluding an exchange agreement between Universities.
Parties worked up a question on creating a master programme of double diplomas in English between MSPU and Hellenic Open University on the base of MSPU master programme in English “Modern technologies in teaching English” as well as perspectives of opening a summer school for MSPU students with the possibilities of learning the English and the Greece languages and cultures.
Prof. Karras also gave a lecture “Intercultural approaches: comparing Russia and Greece” to MSPU students.
Ionian University was established in 1984. Over the last 30 years it has achieved a high level of teaching and has recommended itself as a rapidly developing and highly promising University that trains good specialists in the humanities.
Hellenic Open University (the city of Patras) is a state University. It’s the 6th largest state University in Greece with a mark of distinction of the Ministry of Education.
