On August 10, 2023, the Moscow Pedagogical State University hosted a meeting of the authors of the textbook of social studies with Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission on Historical Education. The meeting was held in the main building of the university with the participation of the Rector of MPGU, Academician of RAE Alexey Lubkov.
Vladimir Rostislavovich got acquainted with the library, sculptural compositions, classrooms of the oldest pedagogical university in Russia.
The meeting was attended by teachers of social sciences from MPGU and other leading universities of the country, who joined the team of authors formed by the Ministry of Enlightenment of the Russian Federation to prepare a unified textbook of social studies for grades 10-11.
Opening the meeting, Vladimir Rostislavovich outlined the task facing the team of authors: «To create a product that a student will read, use, «read to pieces», which will help him in life… We have a unique chance to make the most interesting and useful subject for schoolchildren. Let’s be inspired by this task!»
During the discussion on the substantive, ideological, methodological and psychological-pedagogical aspects of the new textbook, the first Vice-Rector of the MPGU, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Viktor Dronov, Head of the Department of Comparative Political Science of MGIMO, member of the Public Chamber of Russia Oksana Gaman-Golutvina, Professor of the Higher School of Economics, member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights Leonid Polyakov, Deputy Director of the Institute of History and Politics of MPGU Marina Nesmelova, journalist, member of the Public Chamber of Moscow Pavel Danilin, Professor of the Department of Political Science of the Financial University, leading specialist of the Center «Philosophy of Education» of the MPGU Elena Brodovskaya, Professor of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Europe and America of the MPGU Mikhail Ponomarev, Head of the Department of Comparative Political Science of the RUDN Maria Mchedlova, Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy in the Field of General Education of the Ministry of Education of Russia Lyudmila Lagutina and others.
At the end of the meeting, the Rector of MPGU Alexey Lubkov thanked all the participants of the discussion and recalled the words of the great Russian cultural figure, film director Andrei Tarkovsky: «Truth cannot be taught, it must be experienced.» According to Alexey Vladimirovich, «The moment of experience is the moment of belonging to the Motherland and those great values that need to be spoken about in simple language.» This should be the leitmotif of the work on the textbook.
