On February, 20 MPGU opened exhibition “Humanitarianism and solidarity in fighting against hunger (1921-1923). Swedish aid to the Samara province” – an international event organized by MPGU together with the Embassy of Sweden, International Committee of the Red Cross and the State Central museum of the Russian Contemporary history.
The exhibition was dedicated to the tragic and significant humanitarian mission organized by European countries, the Red Cross during the famine and crop failure in the Volga region. The exhibition demonstrates the example of friendship, solidarity and true human values.
Peter Erickson, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden in Russia underlined that aid to the Soviet Russia was the first Swedish humanitarian mission abroad. At the time the relationship between the young Soviet country and Sweden were rather tense. Nonetheless, a lot of work has been done to help the people of the neighboring country. Sweden preserves its willingness to help the neighbor when in trouble.
The exhibition is placed at the central hall of the Humanities building and is open until March, 6 2019.
