For all of them all the necessary conditions for the active research in the field of mathematics and computer science are made as well as in the field of theory and methods of teaching mathematics and computer science at school.
Department of Algebra
The Department of Algebra is headed by PhD (Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences), Professor Alexandr Aleksandrovich Fomin. At the department many doctors of physical and mathematical sciences and professors work such as A.V. Grishin, G.A.Karasev, A.V. Tsarev, E.E.Shirshova etc. The department actively participates in international conferences in mathematics and exchange programs for specialists in collaboration with foreign countries. Teachers of the department worked at universities in Europe, America, etc.
The department of Algebra of Moscow State Pedagogical University in its current form was established in 1963, but its pre-history begins much earlier, in 1924, when at the second Moscow State University the Department of algebraic analysis was founded. In 1963, the Department of algebra was headed by Professor L. Y. Kulikov who headed it until 1989.
The Department provides teaching of algebra and is involved in teaching other math courses. Teachers of the Department supervise the preparation of bachelor’s final works and master’s dissertation writing. At the Department there are successful post-graduate studies. Research work is conducted actively, including joint work with scientists from the USA, Canada, Germany, and Great Britain. This research work was supported by grants from Russian and international research foundations (Russian Foundation for Basic Research, DAAD, Grant of the President and others).
A great scientific and methodical work is carried out. The students of pedagogical universities have been taught for many years by algebra textbook created at the Department by L.Y. Kulikov «Algebra and Number Theory» and problems books in algebra and number theory by L.Y. Kulikov, A.I. Moskalenko and A.A. Fomin.

Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics
The Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics is headed by the Rector of the University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Education, the American Academy of Mathematics, PhD – Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor Victor Leonidovich Matrosov. The Department has computer rooms that allow students to study up-to-date. At the Department doctors of physical and mathematical sciences work such as academician of the Russian Academy of Education I.I. Bavrin, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences K.V. Rudakov, Professor V.A. Gorelick and other prominent scientists who have made great contributions to theoretical computer science. State standards for teaching computer science at universities and secondary schools developed by scientists of the department as well as educational programs and training materials are widely used in many secondary and higher educational institutions in Russia. In 1998, for a number of textbooks on higher mathematics, V.L. Matrosov and I.I. Bavrin were awarded the Prize of the President of the Russian Federation.
Department of Theory and Methods of Teaching Computer Science
The Department of Theory and Methods of Teaching Computer Science was established in 2005 under control of academician of the Russian Academy of Education A.A. Kuznetsov. Today the head of the Department, PhD (Doctor of pedagogical sciences), professor T.B. Zakharova leads the work in two directions: «New directions in methodical training teachers of computer science at a pedagogical educational institution» and «Conditions for the formation of information and communication environment, focused on new educational results.» Teachers of the Department are highly qualified specialists — teachers and scientists, well-known both in Russia and abroad, among them professors and associate professors who annually publish in the popular press their scientific works, monographs, textbooks and teacher supplies.
Department of Theory and Methods of Teaching Mathematics
The Department of Theory and Methods of Teaching Mathematics is headed by PhD (Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences), Professor Valery Aleksandrovich Gusev, author of a number of new textbooks in mathematics. At the department doctors and candidates of science work as well as authors of school and university textbooks on methods of teaching mathematics.
