The Day of UNESCO Chair on Media and Information Literacy and the Media Education of Citizens that was intended to coincide with the UNESCO Global week of media and information literacy was held at the Institute of Journalism, Communication and Media Education.
This event was held for the first time and became the presentation of newly established Chair. Scientists from MSPU, Russian State Humanitarian University (RSHU), Higher School of Economics (HSE), Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences (INION), specialists of the Russian Committee of the UNESCO Program “Information for all”, Russian State Children Library, different partner organizations, including UNESCO associated schools took part in this event.
I.V. Zhilavskaya, the head of the new Chair, told the audience about the development strategy of the Chair, about current projects and nearest plans.
I.V. Zhilavskaya said that the task of the Chair lies precisely in understanding the process of media informational education and offer an actual concept of modern media and informational education.
T.N. Vladimirova, the director of the Institute of Journalism, Communication and Media Education of MSPU expressed her own view on media education as one of the leading trends in the modern system of acquiring knowledge and skills.
I.A. Fateeva, professor, certificate expert of the Federal Service for supervision in education and science Rosobrnadzor in the sphere of children protection from information harmful to their health told about media safety as one of the main directions of the Chair activity.
A. Borisenko, Master’s Degree student of the Chair shared her opinion with the audience about her impressions of participation in one of the first projects organized by the staff of the Chair –the UNESCO International Day of Literacy.
A. Cherniy, the head of the center of studying the problems of Informatics of INION told about the unique joint project of the UNESCO Chair and Association of the specialists in media education – the intellectual club “Mediatoria”. This club can be an excellent place for intellectual discussion about the future of media space.
