Dear colleagues, dear friends!
So the long-awaited day has come. Moscow Pedagogical State University turns 150 years old. We work and study at a unique university with a long and glorious history. For each of us, this is a reason for pride, another incentive to achieve new high results.
All these years, our university has not only kept pace with the times, but has also been ahead of it in many ways, setting high standards of education and upbringing. The Moscow Higher Women’s Courses, which were opened in 1872, allowed women to receive higher education in Russia for the first time. The creation of the 2nd Moscow State University of the first pedagogical faculty gave a start to the development of pedagogical education as an integral part of the national higher education. In 1990, Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin became the first pedagogical university in Russia and received its modern name — MPGU.
The key goal that we have been guided by throughout our century and a half history is to ensure the fundamental nature of the scientific training of the teacher. The foundations of this approach were laid by our great predecessors, including V.I. Guerrier, V.I. Vernadsky, S.A. Chaplygin, V.O. Klyuchevsky, S.M. Solovyov and many other outstanding scientists of world renown. In any era, a teacher, associate professor, professor of our university is a patriot of his Motherland, an adherent of the traditional values of the Russian people, a person of high culture.
We are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the university during the revival of teacher education on a national basis. Pedagogical universities receive significant support from the state, the most talented and motivated applicants become our students. The university community and society as a whole have consolidated to recognize the special status of the Teacher, and today the teaching profession is without a doubt one of the most prestigious, respected and in demand in Russia.
Our university will continue to develop dynamically, respond to the challenges of the times, preserve and increase the best traditions of Russian education, shape the Russian identity and professionalism of future teachers, and contribute to the full disclosure of the talents of each student, graduate student and staff member.
I wish all of us success on this path! Being a part of the MPGU community is a great happiness and a great responsibility. Happy holiday!
