Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic in Russia Ricardo Ernesto Lagorio visited MPGU this July. MPGU Rector Alexey V. Lubkov, Doctor of History, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Education received the honorary guest. The following MPGU representatives also took part in the meeting: Vasiliy V. Strakhov, vice-rector for development, Olga A. Morozova, deputy head of International Relations Office, Miguel Palacio, Rector’s adviser, Sergey D. Polovetsky, director of the Directorate of studying the history of MPGU. Mr. Ambassador was accompanied by the secretary of the Embassy, the head of the department of culture, science, technology and innovations Gastón Fielli.
V.V. Strakhov familiarized the guests with the main periods of MPGU history. He told them about development of the University during the 20th century, famous lecturers and graduates of MPGU, politicians and public figures who had visited the main building of the University, the role of MPGU in training lecturers and development of training programmes for the system of education. He spoke about actual fields of study, achievements of University scientific schools and cooperation with foreign countries, including the possibilities for students from Spanish-language countries.
Argentine representatives examined the famous room 9, after that S.D. Polovetsky conducted an excursion around the main building: the conference room of the Academic Council, museum with V.P. Potemkin Collection of Russian and foreign fine arts, the reading room of the library. The architecture of the building impressed the guests.
During the friendly meeting and negotiations Ricardo Lagorio and Alexey V. Lubkov discussed a wide range of issues of future collaboration.
Mr. Lagorio also spoke about the reason of special attention to Russia: Russian artist Lev Lagorio was the representative of his family.
MPGU Rector told about MPGU collaboration with Spanish language world, including the system of education in the countries of Latin America.
The Ambassador of Argentine noted that modern society was highly susceptible to instability, therefore, the issue of spiritual, traditional values, issue of interfaith and inter-ethic dialogue were of particular importance.
Alexey Lubkov, for his part, noted that MPGU was always open for collaboration in the field of spiritual and moral education, formation of national identity.
The parties agreed on a Russian-Argentine meeting this Autumn which would allow to interchange the experience and develop the concrete programmes and activities in this direction.
Then the participants of the meeting discussed a number of strategic initiatives that could be implemented jointly by MPGU and the Argentine party: interaction between MPGU and Argentine Universities, implementation of projects taking into account CIS and European Economic Community activities, initiatives in the field of teaching the Spanish language and collaboration with schools of Moscow, the Moscow region and other regions of Russia.
In conclusion, participants of the meeting agreed to a meeting this November and development of programmes of practical interaction, as well as regular annual meetings both in the territory of the Russian Federation and the Argentine Republic.
