MPGU 26th Rector is Alexey V. Lubkov, Prof., Doctor of History, Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education.

Hence, our main task is to preserve the glorious legacy of MPGU, develop and define the future appearance of our University by introducing the innovative approaches to education. Talent, self-sacrifice, professional dedication and civil responsibility have always been distinguishing qualities of MPGU graduates. In the 21st century it is necessary to find a balanced approach to cultural, axiological, psychological and methodological components of teacher training process in order to prepare intelligent, creative people who are able to react quickly and adequately to the challenges of time».
A. Lubkov was born in Moscow in 1960. He studied history (1978-1983) in MPGI n.a. Lenin (former MPGU). As a student he received Lenin scholarship (1980-1983) and was elected a secretary of the faculty division of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League. In 1984-1987 he served as Secretary of All-Union Leninist Young Communist League MPGI n.a. Lenin. In 1979 — 1981 actively participated in the construction movement.
In 1990 became Ph.D. student of the USSR history and the same year Associate Professor of Modern History Department. In 1990 A. Lubkov defended Ph. D. thesis «Working class cooperation during the October Revolution: February 1917 — November 1918 (based on the data of the Central industrial district of Russia).
From 1991 until 1998 worked as Dean of the MPGU Faculty of History and the first MPGU Vice-Rector. In 1998 A. Lubkov became Professor of the Modern History Department and remained in this position until 2006.
In 2006 A. Lubkov was employed as Professor of the Social Humanities Department by Moscow Institute of Open Education and the same year became Vice-Rector there.
In 2013 he returned to his home University and worked there until 2014 as Vice-Rector and Archive and Museum curator. In 2016 A. Lubkov became Assistant Director in the of the Higher Education State Policy Department in the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation.
Since 2017 A. Lubkov is Rector of MPGU.
