Library

 

MPGU library was founded in 1873 and has a status of methodological center of Russian libraries that belong to pedagogical universities and colleges.

The library provides access to information resources for educational and research purposes. It comprises 9 libraries which belong to different Faculties and Institutes, the library of the Department of Humanities and 5 local library offices. All of them are located in different districts of Moscow. There are 10 reading halls that provide room for 755 students. More than 20 thousands readers use the library on the daily basis. The collection of the library contains about two million volumes.

MPGU library has also Rare Book Department with more than 40,000 books and periodicals which date back to the 18th, 19th and the beginning of the 20th Centiries. Among them there are: the first edition of A.S. Griboyedov’s comedy “Woe from Wit”, L.F. Magnitskiy’s “Arithmetics” and autographed books of I.A. Bunin, K.A. Timiryazev and others.

The library fund is being formed according to requests made by MPGU Departments and Faculties and has about 1,9 million items. Since 2009 the library runs on «AbsothequeUnicode» information system . All reading rooms are equipped with computers and free Wi-Fi.

The library has electronic catalogue.
