The Main University building, which is situated at Malaya Pirogovskaya street 1/1, is an example of Neo-classical architecture. Its artistic orientation is the Russian classicism of the 18th century and the Russian Empire style of the first third of the 19th century. Designed by famous Russian architect, Professor of the Moscow School of Arts, Sculpture and Architecture S.U. Solovyev, the building was constructed in 1913.
Over 100 documentary and feature films were made there. Among them there is “The Road to Calvary”, “Big School-Break”, “We Are from Jazz”, “Carnival”, “An Easy Life” and “Under the Sign of Scorpio”.
Prominent politicians, famous scientists and musicians (including A.D. Sakharov, Z.I. Alferov, V.I. Lenin, Y.M. Luzhkov, L.V. Sobinov and F.U. Shalyapin) met with teachers and students there.
The Main MPGU building is a cultural heritage site (a monument of history and culture) of federal importance.
